Freeman Stone Co. papers, 1880-1896, (bulk 1880-1886).

This series of papers are the records of the Freeman Stone Co. (originally known as A.B. Freeman and Son) of Proctorsville, Vt. The records include correspondence about settling accounts, placing orders, shipping arrangements and other business matters; bills; receipts; deeds; and agreements. Several of the agreements are between the Freemans and Fletcher Proctor who became a partner in 1882. There are also several volumes with these papers including a time book, 1882-1885, several account books spanning 1882-1885, and account of railroad rates, 1883-1885, and letter press books, 1883-1885.

The Freeman Stone Co., in Proctorsville, Vt., was first listed in "Walton's Vermont Register" in 1878 under the name A.B. Freeman and Son. It was named for Allen B. and Stanley D. Freeman. The company manufactured and sold soapstone griddles, foot warmers, soapstone dust, and scythe stones. In 1882 Fletcher Proctor became involved in the business and the name was changed to the Freeman Stone Co. The company apparently went out of business after 1886. From the description of Freeman S...
